October 20th For the last week or so I've been tied up with something quite new to me: jury duty. I can't say it was something I was looking forward to (my initial response to being called up was quite the opposite), but once I got into it and assigned a case I found it all to be quite fascinating. Not only did the thing play out in a way that felt totally natural having watched various shows on TV over the years, but it was generall interesting being involved in a relatively simple case that seemed quite obvious from the start, yet deliberation still took a few hours because we really did have to think about exactly what evidence was provided and the small gaps that it entailed. Rather out of character for me I put myself forward to be the foreman and lead the deliberation, which also meant having to deliver the verdicts in court. All felt rather unusual but it has opened my eyes to the fact should programming go the way that seems all but inevitable as a career path now, other things might well be far more interesting to me than I'd suspected, and there's probably options I've never even heard of that'd be good to consider. Time will tell I guess.
