6th October The omnipresence of LLMs (so called "AI") has had some weird effects on the net and tech in general. It's ruined a lot of the internet, with slop results being the norm and not the exception, it's invested the offline world with local events and fairs using image generators to create posters, and video and music have been inundated also. Everything is being romped at an astounding pace. Programming has fallen by the wayside too, except for those of us who choose to do it for the sake of actually doing it, and that has had one weird side effect I wouldn't have anticipated, and that is it might have finally put the never ending chase for "new" to an end. For the first time in a while I've not been inundated with news about the how new JavaScript or CSS framework. Granted, that was probably better than we have now, but I'm definitely not missing that aspect of being a developer in the online world. Sidenote: work on the Gopher client has slowed while I try and work out the mysteries of the BScrollView, and establish whether or not it's fully supported while using Haiku's *new* (as in, they weren't in BeOS) layout APIs. This is exactly the kind of challenge that programming is about, and while it's been frustrating trying to find information on a scarce topic, I'll be fucked if I'm going to ask an LLM about it.
