21st September It has been refreshing working on my Gopher client for Haiku. Yes, it's going to be a while before I've found all the memory leaks (partly down to using an API I'm not that familiar with) and bugs, and even longer to add all the features I would like, but it's *fun* to do. An LLM probably could have spat this out in next to no time, but I'd have learned little and enjoyed even less. When it comes to a mode of transport, I'll often choose a motorcycle over a car because it's more enjoyable and there are other benefits like them being easier to park in a city. There are downsides too, but sometimes I ride for the sake of the ride, and naturally those are the rides I prefer. The activity is the whole point of it. The purposes is the journey itself, it's not to get somewhere else, it's to be doing the thing that I love. It's the same with any of my hobby development projects, the programming, not the output is the real point of it all.
