# Distraction The mind loves distractions, new problems to solve, new toys to entertain. Sometimes you embark on a journey with a clear goal in mind. But it is not long before you start looking at the scenery and the side roads, wondering what if... Hobbies are like this in a microcosm, where as life is the macrocosm. I can only relate to what I experience and the behaviour I see in others. In amateur radio I see an awful lot of collectors, collectors of equipment, collectors of knowledge. But for the most part, the collected is unused. Some people clearly like the collecting, but for me the enjoyment is making use of the equipment and knowledge. People put off doing until they have the perfect this or that. Like waiting for retirement to enjoy life, then dieing 18 months later... Some days you wake up and see clearly that you are off course. When this happens you must take corrective action. I have become involved in too many distractions, draining my time and energy. As you age, time and energy become precious indeed. Don't waste them.
