# Gopher proxies Fair Warning! I've noticed a lot of repeated connections to my gopher server from certain IP addresses. They appear to be junk, the sort of thing that you repeatedly get hammering your HTTP server. On further investigation into one such host, they are running a web<->gopher proxy. ## Why I am on gopher (*warning* controversial material!) I moved to gopher after a career in IT dealing with web technologies, web servers and all the associated crap therein. I'd had enough so, the last thing I want to see is the web creeping into my happy place. *Web to gopher proxies are an abomination!* If someone is too lazy/retarded to install a gopher client then they don't belong here. By building web proxies all you are doing is facilitating a bridge for the unwashed hordes of AI bots and scrapers into our sacred space. Proxies also anonymise the originating host so that I cannot deal with them individually. ## What to do? I am here by giving *fair warning* that if I see such junk originating from your IP address, and find that you are running a proxy, you will be added to my IP blacklist along with all the other junk from the web. Thank you for your attention.
