Help on Searching in Hyper-G
Hyper-G has fully integrated attribute (title, keyword,
author, etc.) and content (full text) search. Documents are
indexed automatically on insertion into the Hyper-G server, hence
everything in Hyper-G is searchable.
You can access both a simple search form and an extended search
form in the Search menu. Both forms allow you to specify a
search query which is then submitted to the Hyper-G server.
The search query consists of words separated by operators. The OR
operator may be specified by '|', or, or oder
(case-insensitive). The AND operator is specified with '&',
and, or und (case-insensitive). A space is interpreted
as an AND operator. The ANDNOT operator may be specified by '&!', andnot, or undnicht
(case-insensitive).
Search terms may be truncated with an asterisk, e.g. "hyper*".
Brackets may be used to form the query (e.g. '(TU Graz) | (TU Wien)' ).
The scope of the search can be the whole server or may be focused on
a particular collection (including its subcollections), which does not
have to reside on the same Hyper-G server.
The search forms allow you to specify two types of searching:
- Title and/or Keyword Search
- Content Search (Full Text)
The extended search form provides the following additional features:
- The number of matching objects returned by Content Search can be limited
(the result list is ranked by score).
- Additional attributes such as 'author' or 'creation/modification date' can be specified.
- The language(s) within which to search can be specified.
The date format for the attribute fields "Created/modified after" and
"Created before" can either be "yy/mm/dd" (absolute date) or "(-number d)" (relative date). The relative date format allows to specify "number of days before
today".
Result List
The search result list displays the same attributes as for members of
the collection list (see
Help on Collection Lists).
Moreover, for Content Search, the score of each document is displayed.
