Weather Situation A high pressure centre slowly approaches the west of Tasmania today, as a weak trough brushes the far south. The high is expected to move over the state on Thursday and continue moving eastwards over the Tasman Sea during Friday. A weak cold front is then forecast to cross the state during Saturday, ahead of a secondary stronger cold front to cross from the west during Sunday, clearing to the east of Tasmania later. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday 10 December Isolated light showers about the southwest. Fine elsewhere. Westerly winds, with sea breezes in the east. Forecast for Thursday 11 December Fine apart from light morning showers about the southwest. Light winds, with afternoon sea breezes. Forecast for Friday 12 December Fine until isolated showers develop about the north during the late afternoon and evening. Possible morning fog about the valleys. North to northeasterly winds, tending fresh to strong about about the far northwest and east coast. Afternoon sea breezes about the west and south coasts. Forecast for Saturday 13 December Isolated showers about the north during the early morning before showers develop about the west, extending to the south and east during the day. Showers contracting to the east during the afternoon. Possible thunderstorms about the north and east, more likely about the east coast. Northwesterly winds, tending west to southwesterly by the afternoon, although southerly about the eastern coasts. Forecast for Sunday 14 December Showers extending statewide, although little reaching the east coast. Snow flurries to around 800 metres during the evening about the west and south. Possible small hail about the west and far south. Northwesterly winds, becoming fresh and gusty west to southwesterly during the day.
