Weather Situation A weak ridge extends across eastern Queensland from a high in the Tasman Sea connected to a high south of the Great Australian Bight. Meanwhile, a surface trough and associated dry line lies over the far southwest of the state, extending into northern New South Wales. From Friday afternoon, a heat low is forecast to develop within the trough and linger about southwest Queensland before the trough gradually moves eastwards during the weekend. Forecast for the rest of Thursday 11 December Partly cloudy with the chance of a shower along the east coast north of St. Lawrence, tending isolated in Far North Queensland. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about western and interior Queensland, extending as far as the Gold Coast hinterland and tending scattered about the Maranoa and Warrego. Thunderstorms gusty at times about the interior. Possible morning fog in the southeast, less likely near the coast. Light to moderate east to southeasterly winds about eastern districts, tending north to northeasterly elsewhere. Maximum temperatures above average about western Queensland, near average elsewhere. Forecast for Friday 12 December The chance of a shower along the east coast, tending isolated between Gladstone and Cooktown, about the southeast and through Torres Strait. The chance of a shower or thunderstorm elsewhere, tending isolated about the southeastern interior and the southern Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Thunderstorms possibly severe with damaging wind gusts, large hail and heavy rainfall about the southern interior. Forecast for Saturday 13 December Partly cloudy with the chance of a shower along the east coast.
