Weather Situation The monsoon trough extends over Cape York Peninsula and may drift a little southward in the coming days. A tropical low (18U) lies within the trough near the western Peninsula coast and is forecast to drift southward today and linger near the southern Gulf into next week. A weak ridge will persist along the east coast over the weekend. Another trough will move east across southeastern Australia later this weekend and help to draw hot conditions more broadly across southern Queensland.
