   The Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Environmental Matters in the
   department of Loreto, in northeastern Peru, is investigating and
   prosecuting criminal actors linked to illegal gold mining in
   tributaries of the Amazon - activity that is threatening life and the
   environment in the area.
