Mexico Authorities Say At Least One Person Killed in Powerful Earthquake VOA News A powerful 7.0magnitudeearthquake struck southern Mexico late Tuesday near the beach resort of Acapulco, in Guerrero state, leaving at least one person dead. Guerrerostate governor Hector Astudillo told a local televisiona man was struck by a fallingutility polein the nearby city of Coyuca de Benitez. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 7.0 and was centered 17 kilometers northeast of the resort city of Acapulco, in Guerrero state. In a video message,Mexico'sPresident Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said there were no reports of major damages in Guerrero, or elsewhere in the region, including Oaxaca, and Mexico City, where people wererunninginto the streets when buildings began to sway. Mexico's National Civil Defense said it was conducting reviews in 10states, buthad not received reports of victims norserious damage.
