German Health Officials Note Optimistic Signs Despite Climbing COVID-19 Death

   As Germany on Friday surpassed 50,000 deaths from COVID-19 since the
   start of the pandemic, public health officials there expressed cautious
   optimism about a slowing infection rate.

   The Robert Koch Institute disease control center reported 17,862 new
   coronavirus cases since Thursday, bringing the total number of
   Germany's infections to more than 2.1 million.
