Peru President Blasts Gov't Officials for Getting COVID Vaccinations Outside
Clinical Trials

   Peruvian President FranciscoSagastisaidlateMonday he isangry
   anddisappointedthat487 people, includingformerministersPilar
   Mazzetti(Health)and Elizabeth Astete (Foreign
   Affairs)usedtheirgovernmentpositionstoget vaccinated against COVID-19
   outside of the clinical trials.

   Sagastisaid inatelevisedaddress that they were immunized with the
   Sinopharm vaccines, which cameseparatelyas a complement tothose used in
   clinical trials inPeru.

   The Peruvian leader blasted the government officialson the list
   provided by Cayetano Heredia University,saying theyfailed to fulfill
   their duty as public servantsand failed to showloyalty to the President
   of the Council of Ministers andhimself.

   Sagasti saidthe list will be sent to theprosecutors andthe
   investigation commission formed by Health Minister Oscar Ugarteto
   determine the next actions to be taken.

   Sagastisaidthe incident will not impact the country's effort to secure
   more vaccines.

   Peru has one of the highest COVID-19 tallies in Latin America, with
   more than 1,235,000confirmed infections and 43,703 deaths, according to
   Johns Hopkin University Covid Resource Center.
