Congolese President Appoints '¯Sama Lukon Kyenge as PM

   The Democratic Republic of Congo'snew prime ministersaid the safety of
   the country's citizens is among his top priorities.

   Following Sama LukondeKyenge'sappointment by President Felix Tshisekedi
   on Monday, hesaidsecurity will be one of the priority areas,
   particularly in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and in
   Katanga province.

   He also issued a challenge that the government will include more youth
   and women.

   SamaLukondetakes on his new role after headinga mining companyand
   previouslyasleader ofthe Youth and Sportsministry.

   He replacesSylvestre IlungaIlunkamba, an ally of former President
   Joseph Kabila, who stepped down last month following ano-confidencevote
   in Parliament.

   His departure came after President Tshisekedi ended apower-sharing
   agreement between his party and that of Kabila's.

   The appointment ofSama Lukondeas prime Minister isPresident
   Tshisekedi'slatest move toselect his own leaders forministerial
   levelpost inthegovernment,which hasa turbulentpoliticalhistory, prior
   the peaceful transfer of power in 2019.
