Ghana Parliament Suspended Following COVID-19 Outbreak

   Ghana's parliamentis halting most businessfor three weeksfollowing
   aCOVID-19 outbreak among lawmakers and staffers.

   Speaker AlbanBagbintold parliament Tuesday17of the 275legislatorsand
   151of 500staff memberscontractedthe coronavirus.

   The speaker also urged other lawmakers andparliament staffersto get
   tested forCOVID-19if they have yet to do so.

   Bagbinsaid the decision to suspend activities was made after speaking
   with parliament's leadership.

   Hesaid parliament's appointments committee would continuemeeting with
   nominees for ministry postsin the administration ofPresident Nana
   Akufo-Addo, who was reelected in December.

   Ghana has confirmed more than 72,300COVID-19 infections and 472 deaths,
   according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University Covid
   Resource Center.
