EU Migration Proposal Draws Ire of Central European States

   FRANKFURT - The European Union unveiled Wednesday a long-delayed
   proposal to overhaul the bloc's migration and asylum policy and to
   establish a compulsory system across the 27-member bloc to handle
   migration.

   After years of division between member states over how to respond to
   migrant influxes, European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen called
   the proposal a "European solution to restore citizens' confidence."
