British Journalists Say Abuse, Assault Becoming 'Normalized'

   LONDON - Journalists in Britain say they are facing an increasingly
   hostile atmosphere, with intimidation, physical assault and online
   abuse now seen as routine.

   Britain's National Union of Journalists (NUJ) [1]surveyedits members on
   their experiences of intimidation and abuse in September and October
   this year. More than three-quarters of the 319 respondents agreed that
   it "has become normalized and seen as part of the job."

   Fifty-one percent reported receiving abuse online, with women and
   ethnic minorities particularly targeted.
