Trump Fires Defense Secretary Esper

   PENTAGON - U.S. President Donald Trump Monday announced via Twitter
   that he has fired Defense Secretary Mark Esper.

   "Mark Esper has been terminated. I would like to thank him for his
   service," Trump wrote Monday.

     ...Chris will do a GREAT job! Mark Esper has been terminated. I
     would like to thank him for his service.

   Esper had been expected to servethrough the transition period between
   now and President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration in late January 2021.

   Christopher Miller, the Director of the National Counterterrorism
   Center, willserve asactingsecretary ofdefense,"effective immediately,"
   according to Trump's tweets.
