Kenyans March to Protest Police Brutality in Own Country

   WASHINGTON - Residents of Nairobi'sMathareslum marched
   Mondaytoprotestpolice brutalityin the enforcement ofacurfewthat is part
   of theefforttocontainthespread of COVID-19.

   In a statement last week, Kenya's Independent [1]Policing Oversight
   Authority(IPOA)said15 deathsallegedly linkedto policeactionsince
   thedusk-to-dawncurfewwas putin place inlateMarchare under
   investigation.

   Rights groups saythepoliceare responsible formore than 20deaths
   associated with curfewenforcement.

   The IPOAsays they have received87 complaints about police behaviorsince
   the curfewstartedMarch 27. In addition tothe killings, the IPOA
   saidcomplaints accused police of assaults and generalharassment.
