What is Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard?

   Last year, U.S. President Donald Trump labeled Iran's elite Islamic
   Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) a foreign terrorist organization, an
   unprecedented move that marked the first time the United States had
   formally named another country's military terrorists. Experts said then
   that the decision would likely raise to a higher level the strained
   relationship between the two countries.

   Here is a look at the history of the IRGC:

   Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps, known in Iran as Pasdaran, was
   founded in April 1979 shortly after the Islamic Revolution and the
   overthrow of Iran's pro-Western monarch Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi.
