Botswana to Hold National and Local Elections in October

   GABORONE - Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi has set Oct. 23 as the
   date for parliamentary and local elections, the Independent Electoral
   Commission (IEC) said Monday.

   The poll will elect 57 national assembly and 490 local government
   representatives, IEC spokesman Osupile Maroba said in a statement.

   The leader of the political party that wins the most seats in
   parliament will become president of the country.
