8 Hurt in Tokyo New Year's Day Car Attack

   At least eight people were injured when a man deliberately drove his
   car into a crowded Tokyo street filled with people who had gathered for
   the city's New Year's festivities.

   The incident happened shortly after midnight Tuesday on Takeshita
   Street in the city's popular Harajuku fashion district near the Meiji
   Shrine.

   Police took a man in his 20s into custody and charged him with
   suspicion of attempted murder.
