Trump Senate Impeachment Trial Thrusts Chief Justice Into Limelight

   WASHINGTON - For a man fixated on the image of the U.S. Supreme Court,
   Chief Justice Roberts faces a unique challenge in presiding over
   President Donald Trump's impeachment trial, expected next month.

   For only the third time in the nation's history, the Senate will weigh
   the evidence generated by the House of Representatives and determine
   whether to oust a sitting president from office.

   As the head of the high court, Roberts, a Republican appointee, has
   taken pains in recent years to explain that the court is not a partisan
   bench, but a body of judicial "umpires" calling balls and strikes.
