Cameroon's Biya Wins 7th Term by VOA News Incumbent President of Cameroon Paul Biya won his seventh consecutive term in power Monday after a Constitutional Council he appointed rejected legal challenges to the election results. Biya's opposition alleged widespread voter intimidation and fraud in the October 7 election, rejecting the vote count before it was released. Heavy troop deployment locked down cities across the country as the government banned all opposition rallies. Biya took 71 percent of the vote, his opponent Maurice Kanto received 14 percent. The election had low turnout in Anglophone regions after almost a quarter-million people fled violence between English-speaking separatists and government forces. Biya has led Cameroon since 1982, and at 85, is one of the world's oldest heads of state.
