Multiple Deaths Reported In Texas School Shooting by VOA News At least eight people have been killed in a shooting Friday morning at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. Police had been called to the school near the city of Houston earlier Friday on an active shooter call. The Santa Fe Independent School District (ISD) said in an earlier statement people have been injured but did not disclose how many. Several area hospitals said they were treating victims. "There have been confirmed injuries," the ISD said. Assistant School Principal Cris Richardson told reporters the suspect had been "arrested and is secured," according to a report on the CNN TV channel. Ed Gonzalez, the sheriff in neighboring Harris County, posted on Twitter saying the situation is no longer active and that "One is in custody, a second one detained. An injured police officer is being treated, the extent of his injuries are unknown." President Donald Trump posted on Twitter that "Early reports not looking good. God bless all!" Police and other local emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, as well as federal agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Santa Fe is located in southeastern Texas between the cities of Houston and Galveston. Santa Fe High School had been put on lockdown in February after reports of shots fired. In that instance no one was injured and police did not find any evidence that shots had been fired. Friday's shooting comes about three months after a shooter with a semi-automatic rifle killed 17 students and school staff members at Majory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The Parkland massacre rekindled a national debate on gun control and triggered demonstrations across the U.S. advocating for more stringent gun control laws.
