At least 50 others were injured in the explosion. Director General of Police Operations in Lahore, Haider Ashraf, told reporters that following an initial probe, authorities suspect the blast was the work of a suicide bomber riding a motorbike. At least nine police personnel were among the dead. The blast occurred around Arfa Kareem Tower -- an IT building not far from the office of the state's Chief Minister. Bomb blasts by militants are relatively common in Pakistan, but the city of Lahore, near the border with India, has seen relatively few attacks recently.
