US Officials to Examine New Jersey Train's Event Recorder by VOA News U.S. officials are preparing to study the event recorder from the train which smashed through a Hoboken, New Jersey station at the height of Thursday's morning rush hour. One person died and more than 100 others were injured. The event recorder tracks data from the train rather like an airliner's black box flight recorder. National Transport Safety Board officials say they're hoping it'll help pinpoint what went wrong. "We are going to be pulling that event recorder from the locomotive, which - It is safe to do that at this point - so once we pull that, we'll have more information about the speed and braking and other issues," T. Bella Dinh-Zarr, Vice Chairwoman ot the National Transport Safety Board told reporters. Officials say the train driver, who was among the injured, has been released from the hospital and is cooperating with investigators.
