US Director of National Intelligence Resigns by VOA News The U.S. Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, has submitted his resignation but will stay on until the end of the Obama administration. "I submitted my letter of resignation last night, which felt pretty good. I've got 64 days left," he said during a U.S. congressional intelligence committee hearing Thursday. A spokesman said "Clapper signed his letter as required" and will finish out his term. President-elect Donald Trump takes office January 20. The top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, Representative Adam Schiff, told Reuters that Clapper "always exhibited sober judgment and put the fate of the nation first." The outgoing director has served the U.S. government for more than six decades. He began his career at the U.S. Air Force. Clapper has been the national intelligence director since August 2010.
