Russia Announces Major Airstrikes on Syria's Idlib, Homs Provinces

   Russia said Tuesday its air force launched a major operation targeting
   Syria's Idlib and Homs provinces.

   The defense ministry said the operation includes warplanes from
   Russia's only aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, which arrived in
   the Eastern Mediterranean last week along with several other ships.

   Tuesday's airstrikes were aimed at Islamic State militants and fighters
   from the Nusra Front, according to Russian media.

   They also came as Syrian activists reported the resumption of
   airstrikes on the rebel-held eastern section of Aleppo.
