India Garment Factory Fire Kills at Least 13 by Associated Press NEW DELHI -- A government official says at least 13 people have been killed in a fire in a garments factory on the eastern outskirts of the Indian capital. Naresh Mathur, the Uttar Pradesh state government official, says another nine people were injured, four of them seriously, in the fire that broke out early Friday in the industrial town of Sahibabad. A dozen fire engines doused the flames after battling them for several hours. The cause of the fire is being investigated. Factory fires are common in India where authorities are lax in enforcing strict safety standards.
