Two Suspects at Large After Brussels Raid by VOA News Belgian federal prosecutors say two suspects are still at large after a raid on an apartment in a Brussels suburb Tuesday. In a news conference Wednesday, officials said the one suspect who was killed during the raid was an Algerian citizen born in 1980 with at least one robbery on his criminal record. Three Belgian and one French police officer were injured when shots rang out during the two-country operation at an apartment in the suburb of Forest. Heavy gunfire Police said they met with gunfire from two people bearing Kalashnikov rifles when security forces raided the apartment Tuesday. Police officials also said they were holding two men, one who had been admitted to hospital near Brussels with a broken leg, and are trying to determine if they are connected to the shooting. '' In a further search of the apartment, police said they found a Kalashnikov rifle, an Islamic State flag and a book on Salafism -- an ultra-conservative brand of Islam that endorses jihad. Outside the apartment, they found two Kalashnikov rifles and a black vest. Links to Paris attacks The anti-terror raid was linked to the November 13 attacks in Paris, in which 130 people died at a series of locations in the French capital. Belgian security forces have been actively hunting suspects and associates of the militants involved in the attacks, which were in part prepared and coordinated in Brussels. '' Since mid-November, 11 people have been arrested and charged in Belgium in connection with the killings and eight are still in detention. One of the key suspects, 26-year-old Salah Abdeslam from Brussels, remains on the run. Belgian media quoted police as saying Abdeslam was not the target of Tuesday's raid. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/two-suspects-at-large-after-brussels- raids/3239814.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/two-suspects-at-large-after-brussels-raids/3239814.html
