US, Somali Soldiers Raid Al-Shabab Base by VOA News U.S. and Somali forces have attacked an al-Shabab base west of Mogadishu, the second significant U.S. attack on the militant group in five days. A U.S. official confirmed to VOA that the raid Wednesday was a joint U.S.-Somali government operation targeting al-Shabab. A local official in Somalia said helicopters dropped between 60 and 70 soldiers outside the town of Awdhegle just after midnight. ''The official, Mohamed Aweys Abukar, told VOA the troops then attacked three or four targets in the town, inflicting a number of casualties on the militants. Al-Shabab said one of its fighters was killed in the raid. The al-Qaida-linked group said its forces put up stiff resistance and eventually forced the troops to retreat. On Saturday, U.S. aircraft fired missiles at an Al-Shabab training camp north of Mogadishu. The Pentagon said the attack killed around 150 militants who were training for a large-scale attack against African Union troops and U.S. military personnel in Somalia. Al-Shabab confirmed the aerial attack but said the death toll was exaggerated. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/us-somali-soldiers-raid-al-shabab-bas e/3227493.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/us-somali-soldiers-raid-al-shabab-base/3227493.html
