Joint Base Andrews Near Washington Lockdown Lifted by VOA News The lockdown placed on Maryland's Joint Base Andrews has been lifted after reports of an active shooter on Thursday morning. Officials gave an "all clear" for the base with the exception of Malcolm Grow Medical Center. No other information was immediately available. Joint Base Andrews, near Washington, was placed on lockdown shortly after 9 a.m. Officials posted messages on Twitter and directed all personnel to shelter in place. "The incident is ongoing at the Malcolm Grow Medical Facility. First responders are on-scene now. All personnel continue to shelter in place," the tweet read. The Malcolm Grow Medical Facility is a surgery center. "The base was scheduled to conduct an active shooter exercise, however, reports of a real-world active shooter situation were reported at Malcolm Grow medical facility," officials shared online. Joint Base Andrews is the home of the president's aircraft, Air Force One, and other units. The base is in Prince George's County, Maryland, east of the U.S. capitol city.
