      Polls: Most in US Support Gun Background Checks, Assault Weapons Ban

   One day after the worst mass shooting in U.S. history, Americans are
   debating tighter gun control laws.

   Public opinion polls conducted by [1]Quinnipiac University, show from
   February 2013 through November 2015 support for background checks for
   anyone who wants to buy a gun has remained consistently high.  The
   latest poll shows 93 percent of Americans support required checks.

   The polls also indicate 58 percent support for banning the sale of
   assault style weapons.

   The polls were first conducted after a lone gunman went on a shooting
   rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut,
   killing 20 students and six adults.

   Sunday, a 29 year old American Muslim gunned down 49 people and wounded
   53 others at a dance club in Orlando, Florida.
