Brazil Blocks WhatsApp Again by VOA News For the third time in a year, Brazil has banned access to the popular messaging app, WhatsApp. The service was suspended Tuesday by a judge because the company, which is owned by Facebook, has not handed authorities user data as a part of a police investigation. "WhatsApp is blocked across the whole national territory," a spokesman for a court in Rio de Janeiro told AFP. Based on previous suspensions, WhatsApp will likely be available again within days. WhatsApp was blocked most recently in May and before that in December of 2015. At the time, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg said it was "a sad day for Brazil." The free app is very popular in Brazil and is estimated to be installed in over 90 percent of cell phones there. That translates to roughly 100 million phones. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/mht-brazil-blocks-whatsapp-again/3424 629.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/mht-brazil-blocks-whatsapp-again/3424629.html
