Local police say two of the dead were court bailiffs, and the third was the shooter. A deputy sheriff also was wounded, but early reports said his injuries are not life threatening. Several civilians also were taken to the hospital. Police said their injuries are not life threatening. The shooting took place at the Berrien County courthouse in St. Joseph, Michigan. A television report from the nearby city of Grand Rapids quotes Sheriff Paul Bailey as saying the shooter was an inmate already in custody. Michigan Governor Rick Snyder says state police have secured the crime scene. Bailey called the shootings a "terrible, terrible" event.
