Ichiro Joins Baseball's 3,000 Hit Club by VOA News Japan's Ichiro Suzuki has become the 30th player in Major League Baseball history to amass 3,000 hits. The 42-year-old outfielder's milestone hit was a triple, coming Sunday in the 7th inning of a 10-7 win by his Miami Marlins over the host Colorado Rockies. Suzuki is the fourth player born outside the U.S. to become a member of the 3,000 hit club, joining Roberto Clemente, Rod Carew and Rafael Palmeiro. He is already all but assured a place in Major League Baseball's Hall of Fame after he retires, holding the record of 10 consecutive seasons with at least 200 hits. He is also known for a superb throwing arm and dazzling speed - in his prime years. After playing several years of professional baseball in Japan, he joined the Seattle Mariners in 2001 as a 27-year-old rookie in the U.S. Suzuki has 4,278 hits in his entire professional career. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/ichiro-3000-hits/3455231.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/ichiro-3000-hits/3455231.html
