Obama to Take Questions From British Youth at Town Hall Event by VOA News U.S. President Barack Obama will participate in a town hall discussion with young people in Britain Saturday as part of his diplomatic trip to the country. Following the town hall event, Obama will meet with British Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn at the Royal Horticultural Halls for a closed door discussion. Obama's recent comments regarding Britain's upcoming vote on whether to leave the European Union will likely come up during both meetings. Before arriving in Britain late Thursday night, Obama published a column in The Telegraph newspaper strongly urging the country to stick with the EU, arguing that Britain would be stronger for it. "The United States sees how your powerful voice in Europe ensures that Europe takes a strong stance in the world, and keeps the EU open, outward looking, and closely linked to its allies on the other side of the Atlantic. So the U.S. and the world need your outsized influence to continue - including within Europe," he wrote. British politicians in favor of exiting the EU were quick to condemn what they consider to be Obama's meddling in their internal affairs. Right-wing British Independence Party leader Nigel Farage told Obama to "butt out," and said Britain's membership in the EU has caused the country to lose control of its borders because migrants can enter other member countries and then travel freely to Britain. London Mayor Boris Johnson called Obama a hypocrite for his stance on British membership in the EU and said the U.S. "would never contemplate anything like the EU for themselves." Following his Friday appointments, Obama will stay the night in London before departing for Germany where he will meet with Chancellor Angela Merkel. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/obama-britain/3299502.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/obama-britain/3299502.html
