Utah Law Calls Porn a 'Public Health Crisis' by VOA News A new law in the U.S. state of Utah is calling pornography a "public health crisis." Another law creates requirements to report child pornography. Supporters of the laws say pornography harms children, causes mental illness, damages marriages, and increases sexual violence. The first law says pornography "equates violence toward women and children with sex, and pain with pleasure, which increases the demand for sex trafficking, prostitution, child sexual abuse images, and child pornography." While signing the law Tuesday, Utah Governor Gary Herbert compared pornography to drugs and alcohol, saying "there is a particular psychological and physiological detriment that comes from addiction to pornography." The Utah law does not ban pornography, but reflects a growing concern about it among the population of the predominantly Mormon state. Violation of the new child pornography law does carry a penalty. A pro-adult entertainment group, the Free Speech Coalition, called the measure "old fashioned" and said that it was created out of ignorance. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/mht-utah-law-calls-pornography-a-publ ic-health-crisis/3293739.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/mht-utah-law-calls-pornography-a-public-health-crisis/3293739.html
