Sanders Wins Wyoming Democratic Caucuses by VOA News Senator Bernie Sanders was the projected winner of Saturday's Wyoming Democratic caucuses, defeating former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with about 56 percent of the vote. The win was Sanders' eighth in the past nine contests. Just 14 delegates were at stake in Wyoming, but the win will help the senator from Vermont slightly reduce Clinton's 219-delegate lead. Meantime, Colorado Republicans were finishing the final round of voting at their state party convention Saturday, where Texas Senator Ted Cruz won a majority of the state's 37 delegates Friday night. The Republican contest has intensified as Donald Trump leads in the race to win the 1,237 delegates needed to win the nomination. Rivals Cruz and Ohio Governor John Kasich cling to hopes they can persuade delegates at the Republican convention to select them as a consensus candidate in the fractious contest. Cruz won a landslide victory in Wisconsin last week, while Kasich lags far behind in the overall delegate count. The next key primary is April 19 in New York, where Clinton holds a double-digit lead over Sanders in the polls. Political analysts say Clinton is hoping to win by a wide margin in the delegate-rich state, recapture her momentum and put the Democratic Party contest out of reach for Sanders. New York is Trump's home state, and polls ahead of the Republican primary there give him a huge lead over Cruz and Kasich. Cruz still badly trails Trump in the delegate count. He would have to take nearly 90 percent of the remaining available delegates to claim the Republican nomination. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/sanders-wins-wyoming-democratic-caucu ses/3277928.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/sanders-wins-wyoming-democratic-caucuses/3277928.html
