European Parliament Janitor a Brussels Airport Bomber by Aline Barros One of the Brussels attackers worked as a cleaner at the European Parliament in the summer of 2009 and 2010. Parliament spokesman Jaume Duch Guillot said the individual did not have a criminal record at the time, but he did not name which Brussels attacker worked at the parliament. A Guillot statement said, "As a student, he held a summer holiday job cleaning at the parliament for one month in 2009 and one in 2010. As required by the contract, the cleaning firm submitted proof of the absence of a criminal record." NBC News reported a police source said the janitor was Najim Laachraoui, who blew himself up last month at the Brussels airport. Officials also believe he made the bombs for the Paris attack last November. '' Belgium's Prime Minister Charles Michel said Wednesday the country made mistakes in handling violent extremism. "In the fight against terrorism, in all countries in the world and in Europe, there have been successes and the have been failures," Michel said. Michel also rejected the idea that Belgium has become a "weak link" in the fight against terrorism.
