Cease-Fire Holds in Disputed Nagorno-Karabakh Region by VOA News Azerbaijani and Armenian forces both said they are largely observing a cease-fire following four days of fighting in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry says its forces were strictly observing the cease-fire around the disputed territory. The Armenian side said the cease-fire was largely holding despite some sporadic shelling. The cease-fire was declared Tuesday in Moscow by officials of both countries. Heavy casualties At least 60 people were killed in four days of renewed fighting over the disputed region between Armenia and Azerbaijan. It was some of the worst violence since the war ended in 1994. Nagorno-Karabakh lies within Azerbaijan, but has been under control of local ethnic Armenian forces and the Armenian military since the 1994 truce.
