New EU Program Routes Migrants from Greece to Luxembourg by VOA News Six families from Syria and Iraq became part of the European Union's newest program to help migrants find better homes without the arduous overland journey that risks lives and strains border protection resources. The families were loaded onto a plane Wednesday to transport them from the Greek capital, Athens, to the small but wealthy western European nation of Luxembourg. More than 580,000 migrants have arrived in Greece this year, hoping to make their way through the European Union to the wealthy nations in the west. The European Union in September approved the transfer of about 160,000 migrants from EU border nations to nations farther west with more resources to accommodate them. Wednesday's families were the first migrants to Greece to participate in the program. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/new-eu-program-routes-migrants-from-g reece-to-luxembourg/3036131.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/new-eu-program-routes-migrants-from-greece-to-luxembourg/3036131.html
