Kerry, Zarif Continue Nuclear Talks by VOA News U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met again Tuesday in the latest round of talks aimed at finding a framework agreement to ensure Iran's nuclear program is peaceful. The talks in Montreux, Switzerland, were the second in as many days for the diplomats, as they work on the details of curbing Iran's nuclear activities in exchange for relief from sanctions that have hurt the country's economy. Kerry and Zarif are expected to meet through Wednesday. Iran and a group that includes the U.S., Britain, China, France, Russia and Germany have given themselves until the end of the month to work out the framework and until July 1 to make a final agreement. The process has unfolded over several years, with the two sides extending the talks multiple times as deadlines arrived without any resolution. Before Monday's session, Zarif told reporters that ending the sanctions is key to advancing the deal. "Our negotiating partners, particularly the Western countries and particularly the United States, must once and for all, come to the political understanding that sanctions and agreement don't go together," he said. "If they want an agreement, sanctions must go." Kerry said Iran must be willing to "make the difficult decisions that will be required" in order for there to be a deal. "Nothing is agreed until everything is agreed," he said. "That is the standard by which this negotiation is taking place and anyone who tells you otherwise is simply misinformed." The meeting has rankled Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is poised to speak before a joint meeting of U.S. Congress on Tuesday about threats from Iran. Netanyahu said that while the United States and Israel agree on preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons, they disagree on how to reach that goal. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/kerry-zarif-continue-nuclear-talks/26 65609.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/kerry-zarif-continue-nuclear-talks/2665609.html
