Earthquake Kills 4 in China's Xinjiang by VOA News A Chinese state-run news outlet says at least four people were killed Friday when a strong earthquake hit the country's northwest region of Xinjiang. The Xinhua news agency says the magnitude 6.5 earthquake injured at least 48 others and damaged or destroyed an unspecified number of homes. Communications have been disrupted and an airport was forced to close following the quake, which was followed by several aftershocks, according to Xinhua. China's Earthquake Networks Center says the temblor hit at a depth of 10 kilometers and was centered in the Hotan region of Xinjiang. The sparsely populated area is about 1,800 kilometers from the regional capital, Urumqi, and is mostly home to members of the Uighur ethnic minority. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/earthquake-china-xinjiang/2847275.htm l References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/earthquake-china-xinjiang/2847275.html
