More Bodies Recovered From Downed AirAsia Jet by VOA News Two more bodies were recovered Friday from the crashed AirAsia jet, along with debris. Indonesian officials say a total of 10 bodies have been retrieved so far. The plane was carrying 162 passengers and crew when it disappeared from radar Sunday. Bad weather has hampered the search for the main wreckage of the Airbus A320, preventing divers from swimming 30 to 50 meters to the ocean floor to look for a large, dark object detected by sonar. Forecasters predict that heavy rain and wind could last through Sunday. One Indonesian official warned it could take at least a week before the plane and its crucial cockpit voice and flight data recorders are found in the Java Sea near Borneo island. The U.S. 7th Fleet announced Friday that it has sent a second ship to the search area, where the USS Sampson is already assisting. Although the USS Fort Worth has not yet been tasked with joining the search effort, it will be on standby in case it is requested by the Indonesian government. The USS Sampson recovered two bodies on Thursday. East Java disaster official Budiyono Mars said Thursday one of the bodies has been identified as a female flight attendant who was found in her uniform. A passenger aboard the flight was the first victim returned to her family Thursday. The body of Hayati Lutfiah Hamid, whose identity was confirmed by fingerprints, was handed over during a brief ceremony in Surabaya, the Indonesian city where the plane took off, and later buried. Many bodies are expected to be found in the main fuselage of the plane, with some authorities speculating the plane's experienced pilot may have landed it on the water before it sank. Before takeoff and during the last moments of the flight, the pilots requested to fly at a higher altitude to avoid a storm cloud. The request was not approved because other planes were in the area. The twin-engine jet disappeared from radar on Sunday, without a distress call, about half an hour into what was supposed to be a two-hour flight from Surabaya to Singapore. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/more-bodies-recovered-from-downed-air asia-jet/2582870.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/more-bodies-recovered-from-downed-airasia-jet/2582870.html
