EU Files Anti-Trust Complaint Against Google by VOA News The European Union has filed a complaint accusing Google of abusing its dominant position in Internet searches. EU Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager said Google has systematically favored its own comparison-shopping product in its general search results pages, stifling competition. Vestager said such practices harm consumers. "If the investigation confirmed our concerns, Google would have to face the legal consequences and change the way it does business in Europe," said Vestager. Analysts say the EU could fine Google as much as $6 billion and require the company to make changes in how it operates. The Internet giant has not commented ont the complaint. The European Commission has also opened a separate antitrust investigation into whether Google has entered into anti-competitive agreements or abused its position in the field of operating systems, applications, and services for smart mobile devices. Google is the company behind the mobile operating system Android. President Barack Obama has questioned EU efforts to curb the power of U.S. technology companies. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/eu-files-antitrust-complaint-against- google/2719688.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/eu-files-antitrust-complaint-against-google/2719688.html
