Explosion Kills 25 at Yemen Factory by VOA News An explosion at a dairy factory in western Yemen killed at least 25 people Wednesday, but there were conflicting reports about whether Saudi-led airstrikes or anti-government fighters were responsible. Officials and witnesses said there were coalition airstrikes early Wednesday in the port city of Hodeida, where the factory is located. Others also reported rebel shelling hitting the area. The United Nations said Tuesday that 93 civilians had been killed and 364 wounded in the first five days of the now week-old airstrikes. The bombing campaign is meant to halt the momentum of the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels who took control of the capital, Sana'a, last September and have advanced on Yemen's main southern city of Aden. U.N. spokesman Farhan Haq announced Tuesday that the last of the U.N.'s international staffers had left the country and that all of the organization's work in Yemen would be done by several hundred local staff members. Meanwhile in Geneva, U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein warned that Yemen was on the verge of "total collapse" and that the situation there was "extremely alarming" with dozens of civilians killed in recent days. A spokesman for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, William Spindler, told VOA his agency has registered about 250,000 refugees in Yemen. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/explosion-at-yemen-factory/2702340.ht ml References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/explosion-at-yemen-factory/2702340.html
