Obama Delays Immigration Action by VOA News U.S. President Barack Obama has decided to delay action on immigration until after the November congressional elections. White House officials discussed the decision Saturday on condition of anonymity before it is officially announced. The officials say the president believes taking his own steps on the highly-politicized issue during the midterm campaign would hurt efforts to pass a broad overhaul. But they say he still plans to act before the end of the year. In addition to the 11 million people already living in the United States illegally, the country has been struggling to deal with a surge in migrant children crossing the border from Mexico. With legislation to address the crisis delayed in Congress, President Obama has been promising to take executive action. His decision to wait will likely upset immigration advocates, while offering relief to some Democrats in vulnerable Senate seats. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/obama-delays-immigration-action/24409 80.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/obama-delays-immigration-action/2440980.html
