Botswana President Wins Second Term by VOA News Botswana's ruling party has won Friday's parliamentary elections, giving President Ian Khama a second term. The Botswana Democratic Party won 29 out of the 57 parliamentary seats contested. A newly formed party, Umbrella for Democratic Change, finished second in the polls, becoming the official opposition with at least 12 seats. Khama is the son of Botswana's first president, Seretse Khama. The Botswana Democratic Party has ruled the country since independence from Britain.
